Oil Wells Remote Monitoring System
GPRS telemetry and remote control for producing oil wells
About the Solution
Monitoring oil-well condition has traditionally relied on physical inspection. This system replaces that with remote telemetry: a wireless RTU host at the well reads sensor data and transmits it over GPRS to a monitoring center, giving centralized visibility into every well.
This cuts staffing costs, speeds up fault detection, and is well suited to detecting pipeline leaks and oil theft.
Main Functions
- Pumping unit voltage and current monitoring
- Motor on/off monitoring
- Spill and oil-theft detection
- Real-time fault alarms: over/under-voltage, over-current, pump stoppage
- Real-time statistics on power consumption and fault conditions
- Expandable sensors on request: wellhead temperature, wellhead and casing pressure
System Components
- Voltage, current, temperature, and pressure sensors
- Wireless telemetry remote host (RTU) at the well, with battery backup
- Wireless data transmission terminal over the GPRS network
- Monitoring center software and computer
Why GPRS
- Wide coverage and easy network expansion
- Real-time data rates of up to 20 kbit/s
- Stable communication with strong interference resistance
- Roughly half the per-well cost compared to VHF radio links
- No radio-frequency license fees
Intelligent Frequency-Conversion Pumping Control
The system adjusts production parameters in real time to match actual well conditions, automatically collects and analyzes data, and iteratively converges on optimal operating parameters.
- Up to 40% energy savings
- Up to 20% improvement in pump efficiency
- Control of electrical parameters (voltage, current, power, frequency) to sustain peak production
